Profile

I have been a qualified counsellor for 28 years and worked with a wide range of individuals and couples bringing a variety of difficulties and issues. I have been supervising since 1982 and training counsellors since 1992. I was awarded a British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Fellowship in 2003 and am currently serving on the BACP Professional Standards Committee.

I believe that counselling can provide a safe place to explore specific difficulties such as problems in relationships at home and work, anxieties about self and others and aspects of life that can feel overwhelming. Over the years my training and experience of therapy has shown me that we can be driven by our unconscious and this can mean that we do not understand why we are getting into a particular situation or patttern of behaviour. These are often related to our past experiences especially during childhood. My aim is to facilitate a trusting relationship between you and myself to enable us to look at and explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours both in relation to yourself and others. Counselling can help unravel the motivations behind the way we operate and offer insights into ways of change and well being.

I value and respect difference and consider each person to be a unique individual capable of growth and change. I can offer short term brief therapy and some longer term work depending on the needs and timescale of the individual or couple.

I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Fees

I charge £40 for individuals and £50 for couples per session for ongoing weekly appointments and £60 and £75 respectively for the first initial session. This is a longer session of 75 - 90 minutes and will give you the opportunity to meet me and discuss your isssues. We can then decide together if I am the approriate person to help you and whether you would like to go on working with me.

COUPLE COUNSELLING is a specialist area of work that I am trained in. it is often helpful to discuss issues with someone who can take an independent stance and enable you to explore the dynamics of your relationship

SUPERVISION I enjoy working with students and experienced counsellors to support them in their work and encourage them to develop and extend themselves as approprate. My fee for supervision is £40 per hour with a reduction for students.

My work place is a 5 minute walk from Knaresborough train station with regular trains from Leeds, York and Harrogate. There are regular buses from Harrogate and the bus stop is within a 5 minutes walk. Local Parking is available.
