About me

I am a UKCP and MBACP Registered psychotherapist and counsellor and use psychodynamic thinking as a way of making sense of human experience. This places relationships at the centre of human experience and emphasises the importance of understanding patterns in early attachments as it is these that set the foundation for the beliefs we have about ourself and others. These blueprints influence the decisions we make in life. Sometimes they get locked in and buried and in this form are not available to our awareness and hence to the possibility of adaptation in the face of new circumstances. It is as if we have forgotten the password that allows us to install a software update. What we become aware of are the symptoms of these outdated blueprints in action, perhaps feelings of anxiety, or low self-esteem or confidence, or low mood, or self-loathing. Or what may emerge are difficulties at work, or recurring or enduring problems with significant relationships, or problems with food.

I offer fixed-term and open-ended psychotherapy and counselling to individual adults and couples.

Examples of issues that may lead you to consider a talking therapy:

* Relationship issues
* Bereavement or other significant life events
* Loss of meaning, direction or purpose in life
* Unhelpful patterns in relationships
* Low self-esteem or self-confidence
* Work-related stress or bullying
* Eating disorders
* Self injury
* Anxiety symptoms
* Difficulties with anger
* Depression
* Phobias
* Compulsive behaviour
* Identitiy issues
* Psychosexual difficulties

I am an SIHR-accredited supervisor and offer consultations to colleagues.
