Profile

I am an accredited counsellor working with young people and adults in Central Ulverston. I work from a Person-centred Integrative Perspective and tailor this to suit my clients needs, enabling them to develop and grow.

I offer a FREE Initial Consultation, as I believe the relationship between client and counsellor is very important and it is only by engaging with each other that we can assess whether we can work together.  Once this decision has been made, I aim to work with clients to build a positive and trusting relationship, from where we are able to openly explore any difficulties you may be experiencing, and with support, find a way to help you move beyond these to a more resourceful and better functioning position. My aim is to help my clients get the best and quickest results for them.

Every person will have their own individual needs, and it is not possible to predict how many sessions someone will want. But in my experience, clients can often make significant progress with a course of 6-12 sessions. But for more complex difficulties, a longer course may be wanted, and I am happy to work longer term with clients according to their individual needs.

I have an open and understanding nature, and can rapidly build a trusting relationship with clients of any age. I have spent a significant part of my career working with adolescents and I myself have a teenage son. I am therefore familiar with the kind of difficulties encountered by young poeple and those supporting them, as well as the wide range of problems which may be faced by adults.

Sessions are held in my comfortable and confidential counselling room, in the centre of Ulverston, close to good road and public transport links throughout the Furness and South Lakes area. My room is not on the ground floor, but if this is a problem for you, you may be interested in my On-line or Telephone Counselling Service, or if you are not too far distant, we may be able to arrange a domicilliary visit (for which there will be an additional charge).

I also offer on-line counselling through "Skype", "MSN", Telephone Counselling, or through emails.  Please contact me to discuss further or for more details.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

My counselling qualifications include a BA (Hons) in Counselling Studies from the College of York St John, a diploma in Person-Centred Counselling, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. I have also trained in Bereavement work, couple counselling, Crisis and Trauma Counselling, addiction counselling, working with self-harm and online counselling.

I have a wide range of experience in the counselling field. In addition to my private practice, I work as a Young Person's Counsellor, with clients aged between 11 and 25 years, on whatever issues they may choose to bring. In my private practice, I see adults, and adolescents,  offering couple counselling or individual work, and have experience of working with all sorts of issues, from anger management, to eating disorders, from anxiety to sexual abuse, and many more issues.  I work with the whole client rather than trying to label their problems.  I also work with a local Bereavement charity, where I help clients work with loss issues. I have previously worked with CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) amongst other organisations.

Initial Consultation - FREE
This is an opportunity for us to discuss your needs, and assess whether counselling with me is the right option for you at the present time. Counselling is about the relationship between counsellor and client, and it is important to take this time to check that we feel OK talking to each other, so this first contact is important. This first meeting will normally last for about half an hour.

Ongoing sessions - £35 for a one hour session

If you have mobility problems, it may also be possible for me to conduct some sessions at your home, if you live locally, (there may be an additional charge depending on where you are) or alternatively I can offer On-line sessions, please contact me to discuss.
