Counsellor Profile

I am a counsellor working with young people (from 11 years) and adults throughout the South Lakeland area, and also in Blackpool and Lancaster. I am an experienced and qualified counsellor, and a Member of BACP (The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists).
I believe it is very important to work with clients to build a positive and trusting relationship, from where we are able to openly explore any difficulties you may be experiencing. And with support, we can find a way to help you move beyond this to a more resourceful position.

My practice is based on a Person Centred philosophy, though I also integrate elements of various other approaches, to assist the client to reach the most positive outcome posible in the best and quickest way for them. I tailor my approach to the needs of my clients.

Though every person will have their own individual needs, in my experience, clients can often make significant progress with a course of 6-12 sessions. If a particular client needs more sessions, I am happy to work longer term with clients, but find this is rarely needed.

I have an open and understanding nature, and can rapidly build a trusting relationship with clients of any age. I have spent a significant part of my working life with adolescents and I myself have a teenage son. I am therefore familiar with the kind of difficulties encountered by both young poeple and those supporting them, as well as the range of problems which may be faced by adults.

Training, Qualifications & Experience (more info)

My counselling qualifications include a BA (Hons) in Counselling Studies from the College of York St John, a certificate in Person-Centred Counselling, and I am currently studying for a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People. I have also trained as a Bereavement Counsellor, and undertaken training in Crisis and Trauma Counselling, addiction counselling, and online counselling.

At this present time, I work as an NHS counsellor in the Blackpool area, and also with a local charity, where I have counselled clients on issues around loss and bereavement. I have previously worked with an organisation providing support for clients dealing with Addictions, for a Women's Counselling Service, and for CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) as well as other small voluntary organisations, where I have provided counselling for various client groups on a wide range of issues.
