Counsellor Profile

I am a qualified Person Centred Counsellor, trained at the Metanoia Institute and have been working with individuals and couples since 2000.

Through the Person Centred approach my hope is that you will find me genuine, accepting and caring. I will attempt to accompany you on your journey of self-exploration, working at your pace and aiming to bring clarity to the issues that arise. You may be concerned about making decisions, coping with crises and difficult transitions in your life or just want to develop insight and understanding about an issue. Or you may be experiencing bottled up feelings such as anger, anxiety, grief and shame which can become very intense. Counselling offers an opportunity to explore them, making them easier to understand with the possibility of change.

I also hold a certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This therapy aims to help a client identify negative and irrational thoughts which are causing anxiety and distress and effect emotions and behaviour. By replacing those thoughts with more realistic and self-helping mechanisms a client can bring about a change in how they see themselves and the world around them.

My aim is always to make every effort to understand experiences from the clients’ point of view and to work collaboratively, exploring the client’s thoughts, assumptions and inferences.

Counselling couples is an important part of my work. I believe that if a couple is experiencing difficulties in their relationship counselling can offer them a safe space to explore differences and enable them to have a clearer idea of their needs helping them to see the way forward. If a couple has reached the point when they view it is more beneficial to part, counselling can help to mediate this process in a healthy and respectful way.

My experience over the past 8 years has been gained in various settings including:
• Marriage Care – relationship/marriage counselling
• The Mulberry Centre - for cancer sufferers and their family members and the bereaved
• Richmond Youth Counselling Service
• Ealing Abbey Counselling Service
• Metanoia Counselling & Psychotherapy Service

At present I run a private practice near Twickenham town centre and work one day a week at a Youth Counselling Service.

As a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists. I work within the BACP Ethical Framework of Good Practice. In accordance with these professional requirements and to maintain good practice I undergo regular supervision to support my work. I am also a member of the British Association for Person Centred Approach
