I am a BACP Senior Accredited counsellor with more than 15 years experience of issues such as relationships, loss and bereavement, abuse, anxiety and depression.
I have a background in the arts and am passionate about the individual desire to live a creative life and the transitions encountered in that search. My person centred approach recognises individuality, difference and the unique qualities and experience of each of us. So often our experience is of labels, boxes and feeling coerced into conforming to the group in which we find ourselves. This creates anxiety, lack of self-esteem and stress, all of which in time lead to unhappiness, depression and increased isolation as we avoid social situations.
Over the past few years I have developed a special interest in the difficulties faced by women struggling to come to terms with miscarriage, infertility, menopause and ageing - hidden grief which is often hard to share with family and friends. I also have experience of supporting women undergoing IVF when keeping stress levels down contributes to a successful outcome.
Frequency of sessions and duration of the counselling relationship is by mutual agreement and I try to be as flexible as I can to meet the needs of each client. I can offer Mindfulness and Focusing practice also by mutual agreement.
Training, qualifications & experience
Dip Person-centred Counselling (Metanoia Institute 2003)
BA (Hons) in Person-centred Counselling (Middlesex University 2004)

After some years of gaining experience in voluntary counselling agencies including Cruse, Church of Scotland and Scottish Cot Death Trust, in 2004 I set up in private practice in Edinburgh. In 2011 I moved my private practice from Edinburgh to London when I began working in Kingston upon Thames. Along the way I was part of a group who set up a new low cost counselling service in Edinburgh as well as being a practitioner for several Employee Assistance Programmes including ITV and The NorwichCentre.
Over all these years I have been passionate about workshops, courses, conferences and retreats which have all added to my appreciation and understanding of the world of psychotherapy. I have been particularly drawn to mind/body work and focusing, meditative listening and neuroscience have been a big part of this. In addition I have a daily practice of mindfulness meditation which helps me to reman calm and centred and is part of my self care routine as a therapist.
