Counsellor ProfileWelcome to my page! I will explain a bit about counselling in general and also give you an idea into the way I work and what services I can offer.
Firstly I guess you are thinking about having some counselling and need to know a little more before you decide.
I do appreciate how difficult it can be to decide if you need counselling and which counsellor is right for you.
Counselling is usually offers a time and place where you can share your concerns with a qualified person. Clients use this time in their own unique way. Some find it really beneficial just to talk to someone not connected to them and others are looking practical help, maybe some CBT techniques to help them deal with specific issues.
The first session is usually an initial assessment session, when the counsellor and client can set an agenda for their work together. It is also an opportunity for the client to assess if they feel comfortable talking to the counsellor.
I'll tell you a little about me and the way I work and if you need any more information then please contact me and I'd be happy to help.
I share a private practice, called Care To Listen, with a friend; Sharon Thomas (who also has a profile on this directory.) We met at college and soon realised that we shared a vision of making counselling available to more people.
I have a history of working in 'helping people' type jobs and found that these experiences led me into counselling as a profession.
I am an integrative counsellor, which means I am able to use several different theories and approaches in my work. I am experienced in delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, which can be particularly useful for dealing with anxiety and panic related disorders.
I am able to work with individuals, couples and groups and can offer both short and long term sessions.
Each session lasts 50 minutes and I normally see clients on a weekly basis, I can be flexible about this in some circumstances.
Many clients wonder how many sessions they may need to have before they start to feel better, this is difficult to answer, as all clients are different.
What I tend to do is arrange an assessment session with you, and once I have a better understanding of the scale of your problem I will be in a better position to answer this question. Once we have started work together I continually review progress and will suggest and ending at the most appropriate time.
Hopefully I have been able to clarify things for you in some way, but if you would like to know more about counselling in general or how Care To Listen can help you please contact me, either by e mail or by telephone.
Alternatively you could check out our website, which has more information on it.
We look forward to hearing from you
