About me

Individual & Couples Counselling, for a wide range of concerns; including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, addictions & bereavement. Clinical Supervision is also available. I work from therapy rooms in Newcastle city centre.

Hello there; thank you for visiting this page. I realise that deciding to see a counsellor is a big step to take, so I hope to make the process as smooth as possible for you. I have a gentle, warm approach which I've found helps my clients feel more at ease - particularly during the first session when the majority of people tend to feel quite nervous. I can assure you that by the end of the first session, most people say that they  feel relieved and much lighter, after having had the chance to offload some of their concerns.

Although counselling can be challenging and hard going at times, I really love being able to work in a therapeutic way, and feel very satisfied to have found my vocation. I have worked with a huge variety of clients - male, female, young and old. Everybody is unique. I value everyone I work with, and feel that it is a privilege to be able to cross paths with so many people, and to walk alongside them for part of their journey through life.

I work in a way that is tailored to best suit each individual, in recognition of the fact that we are all unique. By this I mean that a way of working that might be really effective with one client might not be the best way of working with another. I am guided very much by our first meeting where we complete an initial assessment, when you will have the opportunity to talk about what you want to explore and hope to get from counselling.

I encourage people to work towards getting back in tune with their inner self, their own personal source of knowledge, strength and wisdom. In being able to reconnect with ourselves, we can tap into our inner resources and move forwards with a sense of self worth, self love and a sense of trust in ourselves that will help us to find a way forwards, so that we can live a more authentic and fulfilling life. As the years have gone by, I have become increasingly drawn to a more spiritual path, and this awareness sometimes guides me to work in a more spiritual way with some clients, although I am aware that this is not appropriate with everybody, so I am very much guided by gut feelings and instincts.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (the BACP). I am eligible to apply for BACP accreditation.

I have an up to date DBS certificate (Enhanced Disclosure) and I work within the BACP ethical framework.

I have worked with a huge number of clients who come to counselling with a wide range of concerns, including addiction, loss, anxiety, relationship problems, low self esteem, depression, panic attacks, and more...

My career in counselling began nearly 15 years ago when I completed telephone counselling training and became a call-taker on ParentlinePlus; a national telephone helpline for parents. The same year I also became involved in the Community Mothers Programme, where I provided emotional support to new mothers - including teenage mums. I have also worked in a role that involved answering letters to an 'agony aunt' for a national women's magazine.

Since first embarking on my journey towards becoming a fully qualified counsellor, I have gained expeirence of counsellling in a variety of different settings, including working as a counsellor within a primary school, within a drug and alcohol addictions service and within a GP practice, as well as at a counselling service for LGBT clients.I have also gained valuable experience of providing online counselling for a chaity that provides online support on a global basis.

Now, my main focus is on running my own counselling service, which I started in 2007. I provide counselling for individuals, couples and small groups, as well as providing a counselling service for children within a women's refuge.

I am able to provide counselling within the workplace, and I also counsel employees who come to my premises. I am keen to expand this work, so please do get in touch if you are an employer and are interested in providing this valuable service for your employees. I also offer EAP work, so again, if you would be interested in referring staff to me for counselling, please contact me for further details.
