Profile

Hello; thank you for visiting this page. Deciding to see a counsellor is a big step to take, so I hope to make the process as smooth and comfortable as possible for you. I have a gentle, warm approach and a tranquil, calming counselling room. I've found that these factors help make my clients feel more at ease - particularly during the first session when people usually tend to feel quite nervous.

For more information please visit my website www.abcounselling.com (click on the above link ). Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you might have. Information on fees is also included lower down on this page.

I love this work, and feel so satisfied to have found a career that is just right for me. I have worked with a variety of clients - male, female, young and old. Everybody is unique. I value all of my clients and feel that it is a privilege to be able to cross paths with so many people, and to walk alongside them for part of their journey through life...

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I am a qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (the BACP) and the Association of Independent Practitioners (AIP). I have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau (Enhanced Disclosure) and I work within the BACP ethical framework.

I've worked with clients with a wide range of issues; including addiction, loss, anxiety, relationship problems, low self esteem, depression, panic attacks, and more ...

My career in counselling began a few years ago when I completed telephone counselling training and became a call-taker on ParentlinePlus; a national telephone helpline for parents. The same year I also became involved in the Community Mothers Programme, where I provided emotional support to new mothers - including teenage mums. I have also worked in a role that involved answering letters to an 'agony aunt' for a national women's magazine.

Since then, I have gained experience of working as a counsellor within a primary school, within a drug and alcohol addictions service and within a GP practice, as well as at a counselling service for LGBT clients.

Now, my main focus is on running my own counselling practice. I provide counselling for individuals, couples and small groups.

I am able to provide counselling within the workplace, and I also counsel employees who come to my premises. I am keen to expand this work, so please do get in touch if you're an employer and are interested in providing this valuable service for your employees. I also offer EAP work, so again, if you would be interested in referring staff to me for counselling, please contact me for further details.

Qualifications:

Higher National Diploma and a Higher National Certificate in Counselling, as well as a Basic Counselling Skills qualification and a Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory.

(I also have an MSc and BSc hons degree in another subject area)

Some of the units I completed in my training include:
Counselling for Stress,
Grief and Loss Counselling,
Relationship Counselling and
Cross-cultural Counselling.

I have attended many additional training days, courses and workshops; inlcuding:
Abuse and Child Protection
Alcohol Awareness
Asylum Seekers and Refugee Awareness Training
Confidence and Assertiveness Training
Creative Writing
Domestic Violence Awareness
Family Diversity
Safeguarding Children

and various 'Place2Be' training courses for working with children, including 'Children's Emotional Wellbeing' and 'Groupwork with Children'.
