Central England Therapy Centre
240 Alcester Road South
Anxiety & depression can be overwhelming when you don’t understand ‘why?’ and can’t seem to make things better on your own. With time to think clearly and the right support to help you, things can and do get better. Counselling helps you to sort out what is causing the current problems but it isn’t just about ‘fixing’ them. Talking to a therapist for an hour a week can give you the tools and skills and confidence to handle not just your current problems, but to be prepared for what life might throw at you in the future.
I offer a warm welcome to new clients at Central England Therapy Centre in Kings Heath, South Birmingham. It is a dedicated therapy centre where people come for counselling, coaching, hypnotherapy, reiki, massage… so you don’t need to worry that everyone will know what you’re coming for. There is private parking and a waiting area with a reception.
How I work
At our initial session, we’ll talk about what’s going on for you at the moment, decide if counselling can help, if I am the right person to work with. There is no pressure to commit to anything after that session if you choose not to.
If you do decide to continue then we’ll meet for an hour a week. Those sessions might just be talking, getting things off your chest… or we might do some exercises like a life-line, a mind-map, a pros-cons decision maker, or create a self-care wheel. There is no set structure and you decide what you need us to focus on week by week.
It is possible to make profound changes in a short space of time (6-12 weekly sessions) or you may find that a period of longer therapy suits you better. We can discuss this at the start and review as we go along.
People come to see me for help with:
relationship issues (individual not couple work)
separation and loss
life purpose and transitions
I also specialise in working with women in their late 30’s or 40’s who are worried about having children, or coming to terms with not having had a family.
I understand that coming to see a counsellor for the first time can feel scary so I try to make it as natural and easy as possible. The bottom line is that counselling is just two people having a conversation, but it can be one of the most profound and life-changing experiences of your life.

Training, qualifications & experience
I qualified as a counsellor in 2005 but I have been working in mental health services for over 15 years. I became passionate about helping people make the right changes for a happier life when I had my own crisis back in 2000. The help that I sought, the decisions I made, and the massive amounts of personal learning that I did at the time showed me how much change is possible in a person's life, and i have been committed to helping others find their own way forward ever since.
I specialise in working with adult individuals in 1:1 counselling and coaching. I have been running my own private practice based in South Birmingham since I finished my training in 2005. I have worked with a number of organisations along the way including the The Priory, All Saints Youth Project, Refugee Council and various roles supporting patients and staff in the NHS.
- BACP Senior Accreditation (2014)
- PQ Certificate in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (2010)
- BACP Accreditation (2008)
- PQ Certificate in Brief Solution Focused Therapy (2006)
- Diploma in Integrative Counselling (2005)

It can be hard to choose the right therapist for you, but I can assure you that I have worked with many people who are feeling just like you are right now. I have the training, qualifications and experience that mean i know how to help, and a real commitment to doing the best I can to help you make the changes you need..

Individual sessions, usually weekly, are for 50 minutes. You might prefer a fixed number of sessions over a number of weeks, or to keep things open-ended. My full fee for individual sessions is £50 for daytime appointments. For evening appointments after 6pm the fee is £60, I offer a limited number of concessionary places for those on a low income and able to attend daytime appointments.
Individual sessions last 1hr and are usually every 2-3 weeks. The full fee is £100 (£110 for evening appointments), either face to face or via Skype or telephone. Email support is included between sessions.
Clinical supervision sessions are usually once a month for 1.5hrs to meet BACP requirements. The fee for this is £75. Alternatively, you may prefer an hour every fortnight at £50 per session.
All fees are payable in cash for the first session, and then either by cash or BACS transfer ongoing.
If you have any further questions about fees & payment please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a call on 07779 004292.
I have had some great reviews from clients who have worked with me and they may help you decide if I am the right therapist for you:
"I originally made contact looking for answers. It took surprisingly little time for Alex to change that and I soon realised that it was not the answers that were missing but the right questions. Alex acted as a facilitator for the changes I wanted to make and I found the whole experience constructive, practical and useful, as opposed to humiliating and embarrassing as I had secretly feared it might be. I made some adjustments to my behaviour but it is my thought processes that have changed forever.” Dan
"I was referred to Alex for severe anxiety problems that were affecting me both at home and at work. I was apprehensive about whether counselling could help me because my symptoms had no obvious cause. However, I immediately felt at ease with Alex thanks to her kind, caring and patient manner and ended up pouring out everything to her. Her understanding and the message that this was fixable helped me immediately. I learnt about what anxiety really is, how to recognise my symptoms before they took over, how to keep things in perspective, and mental tools that really make a difference. Exercises in relaxation were most beneficial and I went from such a bad place to a prolonged good place in a very brief period of time." Ben
"I always thought I could sort 'stuff' out alone - that to do otherwise would reflect a weakness. I now know that going it alone can be tough and can often lead you to treading water and not moving anywhere. I saw Alex over a period of months during which time I felt safe and listened to. Alex was respectful of me, my baggage and my process. She told me there was no magic wand but took the time to get to know me and provided a space free from judgement and criticism and had faith in my recovery even when the days were dark. Alex gives the therapeutic profession a good name, she is boundaried yet caring and worked hard to make me feel in control during one of the most out of control times of my life. Thanks Alex." Bec
"I decided to seek counselling after a very traumatic breakup with my partner. I wanted to understand my feelings, not just to be able to move forward, but to be able to use this difficult experience to grow. I found Alex's website, liked it, and we arranged a meeting within days. Immediately I met Alex, I knew she was the right person for me. I found it easy to be open and honest with her about my thoughts and feelings, and she helped me unravel emotions that had been influencing me all my life. Finally I understood what was going on! With Alex by my side, I have been able to become free from the inner rules and regulations I set for myself, and have embraced a brave new world - my world, on my own terms. Thank you Alex." Sarah
"I had five sessions of counselling through a referral to Alex, which were a huge support through a very difficult time. Alex is extremely professional, offered appointment times to suit me, in a very calming, relaxing environment. Alex is very insightful and was able to rapidly help me to see the situation from the outside looking in, and to help me find a way to resolve the problem. Alex also provided techniques to use in between sessions which enabled me to make significant progress in a short space of time. She has also provided recommendations for further support and organisations that could help me in the future." Tracey
