Counsellor Profile

I seek to assist clients to embrace opportunitys which are likely to present as a direct result of work undertaken in the counselling room whether through therapy or personal development. The key to unlock personal potential leads to the green door which opens into a world of yet to be discovered inner resources and is invaluable.

Having gained experience as a counsellor whilst working for the N.H.S. I currently run my private practice from premises in Abbotsham.

The summer house in the photo overlooks country side and has been lovingly restored for me. This octagonal shaped folly provides a perfect setting for counselling because privacy, safety and peace are assured.

Environment is important in the home, in the work place and in the counselling room. I am delighted to offer client's the summer house to work in because having the courage to seek change and being dedicated enough to work towards a different reality deserves a truly beautiful setting to work from. During it's long history I am told the folly used to belong to Kenwith Castle and has provided a refuge for a nun, and a play den for children evacuated from London during the second world war. It seems apt that it once again be used as a sanctuary.

I have studied counselling from many perspectives over many years. 'Flair For Life' is my business name and I think it represents the joy of being human.

Training, Qualifications & Experience (more info)

Advanced certificate in person centered counselling. Plymouth University.

Diploma-Transpersonal Counselling.

Diploma-Higher Education. (Psychodynamic perspective and recognised by the B.A.C.P. as diploma level training.)

B.A.Hons Counselling.
The counselling degree was unusual inasmuch as its main focus was of the interdiciplinary character of counselling thought and practice. This double emphasis is a unique feature of my qualification.

Additional Courses Attended.

Joe Griffin and Ivan Tyrrell have developed a fasinating new approach to emotional health and clear thinking called. 'Human Givens'. I am an advocate.

For those wishing to engage in personal development I offer weekly sessions leaving the end date open whilst reviewing the work at regular intervals. A personal journey of this kind can be rewarding and exciting.

    Fees can be negotiated.
    £30 per 50 minute session.
£20 per 50 minute session for students

I believe it is essential for every counseller to be in supervision. The B.A.C.P. code of ethics requires that each practicing counseller be in supervision. Good practice not only ensures the safety of both counseller and client but also means a positive outcome through the process of counselling is amplified.

    Extra Information

One of the aims of counselling is to enable you to develop and bring into the light personal potential that you might never otherwise be aware of.
"For two personalities to meet is like mixing two chemical subtances: if there is any combination at all both are transformed."

This quote is by Carl Jung.

    Counselling: Shall I? Should I? Will I? Won’t I? The Decision is Your’s.

Think of a picture……take a moment or two…..perhaps you already have one in mind. Is it in focus? What are the colours? What is the mood? Do you feel happy, sad, angry, indifference or nothing at all? What do these things mean? You know the answers to these questions because this is your picture and it symbolises your story. The answers will be personal to you.

Think about your life at this time…….are you focused on many different aspects and issues or does one particular happening, incident, feeling or emotion, past, present or in the future envelop your world leaving you no room for movement, either in your inner world, or on the physical plain, perhaps you feel as if you don’t even have space to breathe.

Good counselling can enable you to first explore the questions and then answers, because a question once posed can change your whole focus and a new and exciting panoramic view can emerge creatively and profoundly. The possibility for opportunities will emerge. Perhaps the foreground of your picture will be in focus for the first time. The ever changing and evolving picture will be available for a viewing always.

So if your picture leaves no space for growth and is neither colourful nor pleasing perhaps counselling might change your perspective.
