Profile

I am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor working privately. My practice is based in a comfortable, quiet, ground floor therapy room with on-road car parking. I can be reached via the A47 which provides easy access.

I work with adults with issues including bereavement, depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, addictive problems and low self confidence. Therapy may also be helpful where there is a sense that life feels empty, meaningless or unfulfilled. The concerns, therefore, bringing someone into therapy may be about what is happening now such as a relationship problem or feelings of anxiety caused by a difficult experience or life events. It is often, however, longer-term difficulties that underly immediate problems.

Someone seeking therapy needs to recognise that they are anxious or depressed, disappointed or puzzled about themselves or have become aware that they make endless repetitions of the same unhappy experiences. It is also essential that therapy is being sought because of a wish to undertake it for yourself and not solely for other people such as family, friends or partners.

I believe that you must want to develop further personal insight so as to discover the meaning of unsatisfactory life situations or incomprehensible symptoms. This indicates an acceptance of the fact that ultimately the causes of psychological symptoms lie within oneself which is an acceptance of the concept of an unconscious mind.

The aim of this type of therapeutic work is towards a more creative and therefore more satisfying and fulfilling way of living.

I work in a way that helps to explore these issues in the context of the past as well as the present. Although the past can be of central importance therapy is not (contrary to popular belief) exclusively about childhood. It is the interaction of past and present that is relevant. Often the therapeutic relationship recreates patterns of relating and being which underlie the very reason why therapy is sought. The significant difference, however, is the context which is non-judgemental and non-critical. The aim is to increase self-awareness and understanding which will then allow for meaningful change.

I work with patients once a week or more frequently depending on what is needed and appropriate.
