I am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor working privately. I work with adults with issues that include depression, bereavement, anxiety, relationship difficulties, early emotional, sexual and/or physical abuse and low self confidence. The work may also be helpful where there is a sense that life feels empty, meaningless or unfulfilled.
It is important that you are seeking therapy for yourself and not solely in response to others such as family, friends or partners.
In seeking therapy you need to have the desire to develop personal insight so as to discover the meaning of your painful and unhappy life situations or puzzling symptoms. This indicates your acknowledgement that ultimately the causes (and therefore potential solutions) of your emotional struggles lie within yourself which is an acceptance of the concept of an unconscious mind.
The aim of this type of therapeutic work is to make feelings such as anxiety manageable; to work through together distressing and painful experiences so that you can move forward with your life; to help understand and make sense of depression and to develop a capacity to pay better attention to yourself and what goes on inside you.
These issues may be explored in the context of the past as well as the present. Although the past can be of central importance therapy is not exclusively about childhood. But the interaction of past and present may be relevant. Often the therapeutic relationship recreates patterns of relating and being which underlie the very reason why therapy is sought. Paying attention to this is an important part of the work. This level of awareness and understanding can then pave the way towards meaningful change. In turn suffering can be alleviated.
The aim is to lead to a more creative, satisfying, energised and fulfilling way of being.
My practice is based in central Leamington Spa in a ground floor therapy room with on road metered parking (£1 per hour)
I work with clients once a week or more frequently depending on what is needed and appropriate.
