About me

I am an experienced psychotherapist and counsellor in private practice in both Cambridge and Central London. As a psychodynamic therapist, I work with you to explore how the past can impact on who we are today, and to help identify and challenge negative patterns of behaviour. I will work with you to identify and work through issues that can arise at home or in the workplace, giving you a place to think through issues away from contentious problems. I work both short and long term, taking into account the particular needs of my individual clients. I see both individuals and couples.

I work with people who bring a broad range of issues: anger management, sexual identity, sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, and a wide range of addictions. A growing area is internet and chat room usage, often causing relationship and trust problems. Many of my clients want to gain a deeper understanding at what's at the root of their problems and support in difficult times.

It is important before committing to counselling and psychotherapy to take time to meet with the therapist to feel that you are comfortable together, which is why I encourage a long initial assessment session. This allows you to get a sense of what it's like to be in therapy with me and for me to decide if I am right for you. Sometimes I suggest you see another therapist who I feel may be better able to help.

I work extensively with individuals and the families of individuals effected by addictions, especially alcohol. Please get in touch if you wish to discuss this in confidence.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist at WPF Therapy, one of the most respected training bodies in London. I have been in private practice for over five years in central London and Cambridge. Currently I work once a week in central London, just north of Oxford Street and near Wigmore Street. In Cambridge, I have experience working with both the academic community here as well as a broad cross section of individuals who live and/or work in this thriving city.

I work within a strict code of professional and ethical conduct, am a member of BACP, a registered member of the BPC and a full member of the FPC.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Fees

Additional information

My fees range between £50 and £80 depending on the time and the location. I try to keep open a few places for low fee patients, in Cambridge especially for younger adults. Please ask when making an enquiry.

Further information

My work with individuals struggling with alcohol has developed in my private practice. Frequently asked questions include, can I learn to control my drinking the way it used to be? can I come to terms with life without alcohol?
I work too with other issues, including anxiety, depression, low self esteem, stress and many work related issues.
A growing area of concern is how internet usage is impacting on family dynamics and coming between couples. Chat rooms, pornography and the way gaming can have devastating effect on lives, are area of particular interest.
I see individuals struggling with depression, anxiety and a feeling of having lost a sense of direction and purpose. I see both individuals and couples struggling with their relationships, with sexual problems as well as gender and issues of identity.
