About me

  • I have over 17 years experience as a Qualified Counsellor working in private practice and within the NHS.

At times life can feel unmanageable and overwhelming and we struggle to cope in our usual ways. Sometimes we just need some time to ourselves, to reflect on our lives in a space where we won't be judged. Sadly many of us struggle with this as our thoughts become negative and undermine us; put simply we can have a 'Bad relationship with ourself'. Counselling can help you to understand why this is and help you find a new inner voice, that is supportive, kinder, more compassionate and a much nicer friend to you.

About Me:

I provide counselling in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I am a member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work within their ethical framework for good practice. I attend regular continuing professional training and have Insurance.

My experience of working within the primary care trusts (NHS) 'Counselling and Psychology services' has given me a wealth of experience of working with a wide range of issues within G.P's practices; with Anxiety and Depression being one of the most common complaints people are experiencing today. As well as my varied experience of working within the NHS, I have worked for the 'Weald of Kent Hospice' with bereaved families and also with adult men at the 'Kenward Trust' in Yalding Kent.

About Counselling:

There are times in all our lives when we feel unable to cope. Sometimes the causes of our problems are circumstantial and seem fairly clear and we just need someone to help us find a way through this difficult time. At other times our problems are difficult to understand and as much as we try we can find no answers. Talking to a Counsellor who is impartial can help shed light on these unfathomed places, helping us to work through our personal difficulties and find new ways of coping with life's inevitable struggles.

As Children we make many decisions about who and how we are going to be in life, we make these decisions based on our experiences growing up and Ideally they are good experiences and good decisions and we like ourselves; sometimes our ideas about ourselves are more negative. We rarely re-visit why we made these decisions about ourselves and although they served us well as children, we often find our attitudes and behaviours have become unhelpful to us as an Adult. We struggle but can't quite put our finger on what the problem is.

Counselling is an opportunity to better understand yourself and discover new ways of behaving, thinking, feeling and relating, leading to a more content life and better relationships with both yourself and others.

As a professionally trained counsellor I have completed 10 years of my own personal Psychotherapy. I know how scary embarking on Counselling can feel. It is perfectly normal to feel anxious when you take that first step and book an appointment. I find that by the end of the first session clients feel much more relaxed and are looking forward to their next appointment.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
