About me

Hello and welcome to Counselling for Change & Wellbeing

My name is Irène, I am a friendly, experienced counsellor and supervisor with over 20 years of experience working in private practice and higher education. I gained my bachelor’s degree in person centred counselling, at the Metanoia Institute, London and I am an accredited member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy; registration number 20329) and adhere to their professional standards of conduct.

It is my belief that looking after our mental health is one of the most important aspects of living a happy and successful life. And so, over the past two decades I have supported my clients to develop healthier ways of managing difficulties and looking after their mental health.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed or depressed due to either external or internal factors, counselling can provide the space to find new ways of managing these difficulties, from breakdown to breakthrough.

Free phone consultation: Making an appointment can feel quite daunting for some people so please make use of your free phone consultation. During this 20 minute chat we can discuss your reason for calling and you can ask any question you might have about how I work as a counsellor.

I look forward to working with you.
Irène

Further information for you:

Sessions for individuals with Irène: Your sessions will last for 50min. during which we will discuss your issue and explore the underlying causes without judgement but with an open mind. This new insight and practical tools will help you to look for new ways of managing problems more effectively. We will work together at a pace that suits you to support an affirmative and holistic process for any positive change to be lasting.

Sessions for couples: Couples often find themselves stuck in a lonely or even opposing positions to one another with communication at a low point. If you feel that you and your partner would want to learn new ways of interacting with each other, improving your connections and exploring healthier boundaries, then you might find that working with me offers you the right environment to do this in a safe and balanced way.

Additional Experience:  Over the past twenty years I have continued to undergo extensive professional development in different areas (i.e. couples counselling, trauma work, domestic violence, stress & anger management, neuro linguistic programming). I have also worked as a core counsellor and supervisor for the counselling department at the Brunel University London (2009 and 2023), where I worked individually with students and staff members in a highly stressful and demanding environment to support their resilience and overall mental wellbeing.

(I hold a current and enhanced DBS check UK wide)

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
