Counsellor Profile

I am an experienced humanistic, holistic Gestalt therapist. I can offer you a safe, supportive and confidential space to address and work through any difficulties or problems you are currently experiencing. I work with adults individually, as couples and in groups.

I believe we are each born into the world with equal potential to be in rewarding contact with other human beings and lead a fulfilling, satisfying creative life. However, often during childhood and sometimes later on, something interrupts this process and a person can become stuck in fixed patterns and beliefs about themselves that get in the way. Gestalt therapy aims to raise awareness of and uncover how these patterns are still active and affecting a person's life in the "here and now" of the present.

I offer short term counselling for issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship difficulties and for people who are experiencing difficulties coping with and managing life crises. I also offer longer-term psychotherapy for those who have, more deeply rooted problems including people who have experienced childhood abuse/trauma or domestic abuse where I work from both an attachment and developmental perspective within a three stage trauma treatment model which allows clients to identify and then work towards managing the distressing symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which often occurs as a result of living with abuse as children or in adult life.

  • Other areas of counselling I deal with

I specialise in working with clients affected by complex PTSD and DID (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder) in the aftermath of childhood and/or domestic abuse, or for those who have experienced trauma in war zones as military personnel and are experiencing difficulties coping with or finding meaning in their lives now.

As a holistic therapist I work with not only the cognitive, behavioural and emotional aspects of the issues and life struggles presented by my clients but will also identify and address the important spiritual dimension I often recognise as being present in the work, such as the personal meaning of our lives and the space we occupy in the world, which is often out of awareness and therefore easy to ignore as it becomes swamped by the demands of our busy modern lifestyles.

    Fees

My fee is negotiable and works on a sliding scale of between £25 to £40 for individuals and £40 to £60 for couples depending on level of income and the location I am working from.

The fee for an initial consultation is £10 for individuals and £15 for couples from the 1st of June 2008.

This initial consultation is an informal chat usually taking anywhere between 30 to 45 minutes which provides an opportunity to meet with each other and discuss what counselling will involve and give you a taste of the way I work and also allow you to ask any questions you may have about the process in general.

    Extra Information

I am also available with a colleague to offer therapeutic groupwork, workshops and training covering a wide range of topics and issues.

I am presently promoting a series of workshops offering an opportunity to explore the therapeutic benefits of hand drumming and the role of rhythm in our inner and outer world. The next full day workshop will be held in Leeds on January 24th 2009.
