Christine McAllister MABC

Profile

I hit a crisis in my life, some years ago, when yet another relationship failed and I could not see why or how to stop it happening again. At forty I was too young to avoid meeting men. I could handle casual flirting but the thought of becoming more involved terrified me, I slipped into depression.
I was advised to see a Gestalt Psychotherapist and that experience helped me understand and support myself.

I now have a good marriage and continue to pursue my dreams. Sounds good doesn't it? I can tell you that the journey to this place was not always comfortable, I was challenged and sometimes it was painful, as psychotherapy/counselling can be....

I had worked with people for more than 35yrs, originally as a masseuse/healer. My own personal awareness influenced my body work and I noticed more and more that mind and body are constantly influencing each other towards health and illness. In 1993 I was diagnosed with a serious illness and decided to put my beliefs to the test. I returned to my therapist and used body work to put myself on the path to better health and so avoided surgery.

I wanted to do this wonderful work and know more about the mind so I chose to train as a Gestalt Psychotherapist in 1996. It was a six year experiential training that furthered my own personal development and honed good therapeutic skills. I experience Gestalt as dynamic, empowering and like Mindfulness Therapy it fosters awareness in the here and now, and encourages wholeness.

It is a privilege to facilitate awareness with you. This gives you choices, which in turn brings about change.

I regularly attend continuing professional development workshops and supervision to maintain a high standard of work. Although I am predominantly a Gestalt Therapist my experience with other disciplines does make my work a little eclectic.

I work from separate premises at my home in the heart of the countryside close to Holt. It is a tranquil and healing environment. I also work from rooms at the St. Barnabas Counselling Centre in Norwich. In special circumstances I will consider seeing a client at their home.

Please see my website or give me a call to ask the questions pertinent to you. Speaking with me does not oblige you to see me but it might help decide whether you would like to work with me or if you think I could be helpful. After a preliminary meeting I like you to consider continuing to work with me. You may have made up your mind or may need more time to process the session, which is fine. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and ready for the journey of counselling that may, at times, be turbulent.
