About me

I am a Person Centred Counsellor and Supervisor, as well as Equine Facilitated Therapist. I offer individual counselling for women only and also work with creative materials and visualisations as part of the therapeutic alliance. I am a mixed heritage Sri Lankan immigrant and lesbian. I am also a recovering alcoholic and drug user and survivor.
My own healing and recovery has been facilitated by a combination of drumming, counselling, sports, nature, friends and family - a journey into the inner margins of my distress and dislocation. My healing has been 'holistic', born from mutuality and synthesis.
For me Person Centred counselling embodies at best all the possibilities for truth, equality, self empowerment and self direction within a therapeutic space. It isn't a panacea or an answer for all people all of the time - but can offer an opportunity, a safe and boundaried space where self reflection and exploring wounds may be facilitated and healed. A space where a client is in charge of their own journey.
I offer my self up into that space and reveal aspects of me, not to exclude or posture, but as part of the counselling process, where I am real in the relationship.
Similarly I engage with differences, like race, class and sexuality, as a way of working transparently to explore any hidden histories within that space.

I have completed a whole series of workshops and training for facilitating counselling assisted by horses, approximately 5 years ago
Horses are congruent, empathic animals that can mirror our emotions and teach us a about power and boundaries - whilst connecting us to what lies hidden or buried within ourselves.
This is essentially a non riding therapeutic encounter.
The horses live in fields near my practice in Huthwaite,8 minutes walk along a bridleway.

Although I work in a private practice, as a partner, I strive to provide equal access to counselling for all women, whatever their background, income or situation.
I abide by the BACP code of ethics.
I have a commitment to regular and ongoing personal and professional development and have regular supervision, both paid and peer.
