About me

Welcome to my profile.  I am a Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor.    Sometimes painful events in the present, memories of the past or worries about the future may mean you cannot enjoy life or achieve your aims. Sometimes our feelings become so unmanageable we don't know where to turn. Sometimes we feel something is wrong and we don't know the words for what it is.

People come to me with a very wide range of issues, in particular:  depression, anxiety, relationship problems, parenting/childcare concerns, work-related difficulties, stress and concerns about weight, drugs or alcohol.

Whatever difficulties you may have, I provide a safe and confidential space to explore your feelings and concerns and will listen to them in a supportive and non-judgemental way. Together we can start to understand the source of your underlying feelings and enable you to see how past experience and current behaviour may be linked.  This can lead to greater self-awareness and insight and start to facilitate your own resources for change and resolution of difficulties.

Counselling and Psychotherapy can seem a difficult first step especially if you've never had it before.  If you would like to see if it is right for you we can meet for an initial session and decide together the best way forward.  This can be face to face or if circumstances are such that is difficult, I can also see you remotely, preferably via Zoom.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Psychodynamic Psychotherapist and Counsellor. I am registered with The BPC (British Psychoanalytic Council), a member of The BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and a member of The Tavistock Society of Psychotherapists.  Being members of these professional bodies means I adhere to their code of ethics and practice.

I qualified as a Psychotherapist at The Tavistock Clinic and have a Post Graduate Qualification in Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I have worked for the last 15 years as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist in the NHS and in private practice.  I have worked at a Local Authority Young People's Consultation Service and in an inner London Secondary School providing therapy to Adolescents and Young Adults from 14 to 24 years. For the past 6 years I have managed and practiced as part of a team of therapists that work within a service offering trauma informed Psychotherapy to Asylum Seekers and Refugees.  This service is a partnership between the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation and The British Red Cross

I regularly attend professional workshops, conferences and Lectures as required by the BPC as part of my continuing professional development.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

BPC
British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC)

The British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC) is a professional association, representing the profession of psychoanalytic psychotherapy.

The organisation is itself made up of fourteen member organisations and BPC accredits the trainings of its member organisations. An individual who qualifies from one of these trainings is then eligible for entry into the BPC's register.

BPC registrants are governed by a code of ethics, a policy of continuing professional development, a statement on confidentiality and a complaints procedure. The BPC is a Member Society of the European Federation for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in the Public Sector (EFPP). Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
