Music is a stress buster for commuters
A survey conducted online by mental health charity Mind has revealed that stressed commuters who tune into their favourite songs during their journey are giving their mental health a boost.
According to the research, 74 per cent of employees listen to their favourite tunes whilst commuting to and from work and 52 per cent report feeling energised for the day ahead as a result.
In addition, many admitted to turning to music when they felt low about work, and 23 per cent said they found listening to music on the way to work relaxing.
In a poll to find out which tunes were at the top of the stress reducing charts, Mind found that Lady Gaga, Cheryl Cole, Rhianna, Mumford & Sons and Take That were all favourites among commuters.
Mind also found that 36 per cent of those surveyed said that listening to music whilst at work believe it improves their working environment and 32 per cent believe it improves morale. In addition, seven in 10 would like to be able to ‘whistle whilst at work’ and 18 per cent believe that listening to their favourite bands at their desk would improve productivity.
Mind is launching a Twitter campaign #MindMusicMonday, which is encouraging people to submit their favourite mood mellowing tunes and has even created a shared playlist of favourites on Spotify which can be found here.
