Mens mental health guidelines launched
Guidelines intended to improve mental health care and services for men in England have recently been launched by charities Mind and the Men’s Health Forum (MHF).
Delivering Male, a report which looks into the mental health requirements of males throughout England, includes recommendations which hope to reduce the number of men (an estimated 2.7 million) who are currently suffering from a mental health issue).
Previous studies conducted by leading mental health charity Mind, have found that 37 per cent of men felt worried or low, with the top three issues playing on their minds being job security, work and money.
The Delivering male report highlights the fact that many men are embarrassed to admit they have a mental health problem and recommends that more male friendly treatments, gender neutral health settings and mental awareness advertising campaigns aimed at men are introduced.
Mind chief executive Paul Farmer, said: “Sadly too many men wrongly believe that admitting mental distress makes them weak, and this kind of self-stigma can prevent them from seeking help and ultimately can cost lives.
