The report, which was jointly conducted by both The Kings Fund and Centre for Mental Health suggested that redesigning some of the services could provide significant opportunities for reducing costs, but also stressed that mental health services should not be singled out for cuts.

Andy Bell, co-author of the report from the Centre for Mental Health, has said that by improving support for individuals with mental health problems, taxpayers’ money could be saved in the long run. However, he also warned that by no means should mental health services be singled out for cuts.
The Care Services Minister Paul Burstow said “The NHS has to get better at seeing the whole person. Treating someone’s physical symptoms and not understanding their mental health just isn’t good enough.”
