Is alzheimer’s in our genes?
Recent research has suggested that developing Alzheimer’s has a lot to do with your genes and is really beyond our control.
This could be a worrying find for anyone with a family history of Alzheimer’s but it is not just all about our genetics and most people who have a parent or grandparent with the condition will not follow suit.
There are certain steps we can take which could help, for example eating a god diet, not smoking, staying active, avoiding high blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol are all simple defence methods.
New evidence has found that certain cholesterol lowering statins which are prescribed to many people in the UK may have an anti Alzheimer’s effect.
Apparently supplements are also an viable option and thought they should not be used as a substitute for a healthy diet certain ones may be beneficial in boosting nutrients such as oily fish and vitamin D which could offer protection against Alzheimer’s.
