Mental Health Care support lacking for the middle-aged
A recent report featured on the Mental Health Foundation website exposes the lack of support that middle aged people receive with regards to Mental Health Care in Scotland.
The Liberal Democrats recently declared that they believe middle-aged people with mental health problems appear to be missing out on vital support and that it is the young and the elderly who are targeted for this type of treatment and care.
Government figures requested by the MSP show that in nine out of Scotland’s 14 NHS Boards, the rate of readmission within 28 days for those aged 45 to 64 to mental health units has risen since 2007.
The NHS are meeting their admissions targets and exceeding their overall target but have promised to reverse the rise of its middle aged category with initiatives such as improving the employability of those out of work.
A spokesman said: “We recognise that people of all ages can experience mental health problems, and that is why our programme of activity on modernising mental health services and improving mental health is addressing the needs of Scotland’s whole population, including those in middle age.
