Call for better funding for children's services

Children’s services are facing funding cuts due to the recession, reports the Guardian.

Those at the Association of Directors of Children’s Services Conference were encouraged to ‘double-plan’ for the future of children’s services, making sure that those in care as well as those living in difficult circumstances at home are fully supported.

A recent report by the children’s charity Barnardos, From Crunch To Crisis: Winter Hardship For Families In The UK , highlights how the recession will affect poorer families, sending them into a “constant cycle of deprivation”. Earlier reports have already shown that many children are worried about the affect of the credit crunch on their family.

There are calls for services to be examined closely, to determine what actually works, and money should be channelled out of children’s services that do not provide much help, and into those that do.
