Less calories means more memory
Reducing your calorie intake by a third can help improve your memory, reports on article on the BBC Health website.
The study carried out by German researchers, involved 50 elderly volunteers who where given a new diet to try for three months, and then took a memory test, which showed their memories had improved. There were also other benefits, including physical improvements and a drop in insulin levels, keeping the brain in better health.
However, a spokesperson for the British Dietetic Association has warned that cutting calories can be dangerous.
She said: “There is other evidence that, far from enhancing memory, dieting or removing meals can interfere with memory and brain function.A drop of 30% in calories is a significant one for someone who is not overweight, and should not be undertaken lightly.”
